Fortunately, many people today are taking an interest in their health instead of relying totally on doctors to get and keep them well. However, their efforts are sometimes discouraged because of the conflicting information they are encountering. Is there any reliable source of information on health and nutrition to which Americans have easy access? Yes, there is.

Surprisingly, the Bible offers information on the use of medicinal plants and healthy eating. The seeker of such knowledge from God's word should realize that this information is not always easily recognized in scripture. Obedience To God

The definition of obedience means: obeying or ready to obey; submissive
We as believers know that obedience to God is a very important part of our Christian
experience and growth. We should realize that God has every right to expect certain behavior from us, because he created us and knows us from head to toe. This is why no one in this Christian walk will ever become sanctified enough to the point where they are always obeying the Law. But we can maintain a level of obedience to God by mediating on the words of Jesus.

True obedience comes from the heart and when it’s displays in our lives it shows the love we have for Jesus. John 14:15 says “if you love me, you will obey what I command”. There is Faith, Hope and Love and the greatest of the these is Love. The greatest commandment is to love God with all our heart and strength. But greater than Love is Obedience. Jesus challenges us to come up higher and be like him. When we are being obedient to God we are doing just that.

We must believe in Jesus, we must trust him and have faith in him. To do this we must be attentive to God’s laws because you can’t have an intimate relationship with Jesus and trample on the words he taught. Obedience to God is living God’s word for your life, and when we do so it will unlock God’s awesome power in your life.

Expect The Divine In 2009

Although this country (USA) is going through a very difficult economic crisis, we believe that since God is still on the throne, His grace and mercy endures forever. There is still hope and great promise on the horizon. This year, 2009 is the year of fulfillment. God has already blessed this nation with the fulfillment that a person will be judged by the content of their character, rather than by the color of his skin. The dream given to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., by God over 40 years ago was realized by the election and inauguration of this country’s first African American President, Barack Obama. And God is not done yet! He wants us to be in expectation of more His glory! He said it would be in comparison to a pregnancy. A woman usually carries a baby for 9 months. In the 9th month, the baby has grown to his maximum weight for the womb and the space has become tight. At this time in the pregnancy the mother has become tired and worn out. She needs relief. This is what we are experiencing now with the economic crisis. Money is tight. Jobs have been lost. We are uncomfortable to say the least. Then, the mother starts to experience contractions. At first they are slight and bearable, and then with each new contraction the pain becomes more intensified. She has the urge to push, but what does the doctor tell her…”not yet, it’s not time”. She endures more pain. Finally, the time comes and the mother is told to push…and as she pushes, she’s grimacing, straining, crying and yelling! This baby can’t come soon enough! Then something so miraculous occurs…with the last push, the baby comes. The mother is relieved as she hears the cries of her new born baby. The grace and mercy of God is revealed in this moment.

This year expect the Divine!

Now Thank We All Our God

I remember watching civil rights workers being hosed down by police on the national news. I remember the march on Washington to which hundreds of thousands of people traveled on a hot summer day to hear that "I Have a Dream" speech. I remember President Johnson signing into law the Voting Rights Act. I remember the days, forty years ago this past April and June, when Dr. King and Senator Kennedy were gunned down. I remember wondering if we would ever overcome these losses as a country.
Now I have new memories, and these are realized hope. Last night I watched as the United States of America elected Senator Barack Obama as our next president.
As a person of faith, as an ordained minister, I have never separated what I believe about God from what I practice in my politics. I do not believe that God is a member of the Democratic party, but I do cherish the theological understanding that God always stands with the poor, the downtrodden, those who cannot defend themselves, those who must rely on those who seek justice to pave the way for something better to emerge in the lives of all people. This is, quite simply, what Jesus did with his life.
This is the hope I see for our country once more after eight very long years of leadership from people who by all accounts appear not to share my perspective, theological or political.
I believe we now have a chance to transform ourselves into a country that cares more about people than about controlling the world through aggression. I believe that shared power strengthens people, just as informed faith expands our vision of who and what God is and can be. I believe that allowing ourselves to be instruments of God's faith, hope and love can and does change the world in ways of which we can never conceive or possibly dream. I believe that God With Us is the most powerful force on the planet.
Many people shook their heads, amazed at what they were watching as the electoral map unfolded. "I never thought I would see this in my lifetime," became a mantra. Tear-streamed faces reflected the truth that, indeed, we have overcome something significant and having come this far we can never go back. We can no longer pretend that change isn't possible, that hope is not an active verb, that we cannot create a larger reality of peace and justice that is inclusive of all people. We can no longer ignore the contributions of all Americans as the will of the few without calling those few to accountability for their actions. As people of faith this election and its results have called us to a new beginning of hope that can no longer be denied or passed off as an impossible dream.
The Letter to the Hebrews speaks of these things called hope and faith in two, concise sentences that remind us of what we can do when we hope, when we believe that God gave each of us the opportunity to be here and to make a difference in the world: Let us hold fast our confession of hope without wavering, for God who has promised is faithful (Hebrews 10:23); Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen(Hebrews 11:1). We didn't think we would see this day in our lifetimes, but we have. Our faith has brought us here and it will lead us into the future if we allow ourselves to be led by God, a God that seeks truth and justice for all people, through all people.

Hallelujah, Praise God!

First and foremost, I would like to take this time to thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who is the head of my life, for giving me the vision for Christian Quarterly and for allowing it to make it through its first year. If God gives you a vision, you definitely get the victory from that vision. God places that vision in you to bring forth the glory of God. If we are men and women of Christ then we are men and women of vision. It doesn’t matter what’s around you or what social background you come from. All that matters is what’s above you and the relationship you have with God, so that the victory can be push out of you. This is why I give my highest praise to Jesus, for giving me the victory. Having Your Faith Tested

Hello Everyone,

In my last letter, I asked the question, “Do you trust and have faith in your Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ? For me the answer was simple, “Yes”. But little did I know at the time, how my faith was going to be put to the test. As you may recall, I had just started training to become a NYC Train Operator and was given this opportunity earlier than their rules specified. Well, on the very same day that my original letter was issued in this magazine, I received a phone call informing me that there was a mistake made and I was not supposed to be placed in this class after all. I knew that they were wrong and that God would not have given me this promotion just to take it back. I prayed about it and had others pray as well.

Then the day came when I was placed back in my former position as Train Conductor. I was confused. How can God do this to me? I gave Him the glory in this testimony. I prayed about the situation and called on others to pray. And now this happens? I had a hard time accepting it. I was discouraged and wondered what it was that I did wrong to make God just take this opportunity away from me. Then God brought back to my mind the question, “Do you trust and have faith in your Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ? He began to show me what I still had…I still had a JOB! He began to show me that there are other opportunities for me to grow within this system. And then He reminded me that even if this weren’t the case, He would still deserve all the honor, all the glory and all the praise. Because He is God and that alone is why He should be given all that and then some…..And that’s what it means to trust and have faith in your Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!

Anxiety, Worry & Fear

Hello Everyone,

Between this new issue and the last so many things have been happening. Good things I might add! I have been receiving blessings from the Lord on my job. The last time I wrote I had stated that I was a conductor with New York City Transit Authority. Now as we speak I am in school to become a Train Operator. Praise God!

To become a Train Operator, you are to have held your position as a conductor for two years. However, in my case it has been different. I have only held the position of conductor for six months. Out of the one hundred new Train Operators only five of us were already in the transit system. I am the only one out of the five with under a year in the system. Everyone else had either two or more years of service. The remaining 95 came from taking and passing the civil service exam. God definitely has his hand in my situation. When man says one thing God says something else and He gets all the glory.

Now, with this new position comes much more responsibility. And with this new responsibility, anxiety, worries, and fear starts to present themselves. At any point in time on my train, I can have anywhere from 1,000 to 1,500 people riding. Many times in life, we do not reach our full potential because these negative spirits play a major part on why we don’t take that promotion or take that new job. We sometimes get complacent in what we are doing because it’s comfortable and the responsibility is light.That is what I am going through right now. I was comfortable in the position as a conductor. I know that by moving into this new position the worries, the anxiety, and the fears will start to rear its ugly head. Believe me, when I tell you that there is a lot we have to learn in the five months of training. There have been quite a few people who have already dropped out because the worries, anxiety, and the fears have taken over. But I have to step out in faith and trust God, because He has set forth this path for me.

We must not let these negative spirits take control of us because if we do we will not be able to obtain higher heights in our careers or in life. Luke 12:22 states,“Therefore I say unto you, take no thought for you”, meaning do not worry because worrying accomplishes nothing. We must also have confidence in our own abilities that we can accomplish any task we set out to do. Proverbs 26:3 For the Lord will be your confidence. If we trust and have faith in our Lord we can do all things. As humans we will at times cross the line and fret when we should trust.

Do you trust and have faith in your Lord and Savior Jesus Christ? If we have faith and trust in our Lord Jesus Christ then we should not worry. Some of us have taken on that characteristic all our life. It is a negative spirit we must rebuke. If we would just believe what the scriptures tell us like in Luke 12:31 “ But seek his kingdom and these things will be given to you as well” then why should we worry or fear. In my case I am stepping out on God’s word that if I trust and believe what the Bible tells me, I cannot lose and I will not lose.
